Pontefract’s nautical history

In this presentation, we look at Pontefract’s important, and sometimes surprising, associations with rivers and the sea.  From a possible lost river linking the Castle to the Aire, important medieval Royal warehouses at Knottingley, the man who wrote the British Navy’s manual on practical seamanship in the Napoleonic Wars (although he was never a sailor!), to a naval war artist in two world wars and much more.
