This presentation looks at the intriguing life of the enigmatic Darcy Lever: late18th Century actor, talented musician, social climber and author of the British Navy’s manual on “Practical Seamanship” during the Napoleonic Wars (although he appears never to have been a sailor!). Was he the inspiration for Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy?
