The Tour de Yorkshire will once again be arriving in Pontefract on Saturday 30th April with stage two entering the district at Knottingley, travelling through Pontefract along Southgate and Carleton Road towards Wentbridge & Badsworth. Two races will be passing through the town on their way from Otley to Doncaster, with the women’s race starting in the morning and the men’s race beginning in the early afternoon.
Not only does the race promise to be a great spectacle, it’s also a fantastic showcase for our historic market town; Saturday’s races will be televised live to 180 countries. The Pontefract Civic Society wholeheartedly supports the event, which has the potential to encourage future visitors from all over the world to visit and see what else we have to offer.
A number of locations along the route are joining in the celebrations, including Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel and Wentbridge House, and have invited people to join them to watch the racers pass by. Whichever vantage point you decide to watch the race from, we hope you have a great weekend!
