We we’re pleased to announce that our in person monthly talks programme recommenced for October and November, and our President, Peter Cookson, reprised his talk on Trams next Tuesday 12th October in Pontefract Town Hall. The presentation explained in the detail the history, development & working of the local tramway that served the town for only 19 years in early 20th century Edwardian Pontefract. On 29th October 1906 the Normanton, Castleford and Pontefract Tramway opened to public service. Although operating for only nineteen years, it made an important contribution to transport in the Five Towns area and, along with the railways, enabled people to travel around the local district with relative ease.
