Our first talk of 2018 will be held on Tuesday 9th January, 7:00pm at Carleton Community Centre, Carleton Road, Pontefract.
In this talk, which accompanies his latest publication, Roger Ellis surveys events and the development within the boundaries of the township of Pontefract.
This includes the early history of the Chequer Fields, through to the English Civil War and then the ‘garden suburb’. Other gems covered are the Black Monks, the Black Death, Pontefract’s Isolation (Fever) Hospital, Baghill, the Waterloo Monument, and liquorice growers.
