The talk, entitled “Infrared Colour Aerial Photography in War, Local History, and Archaeology”, will be given by Eric Houlder.

This illustrated talk, presented by Eric Houlder, outlines the history of aerial photography, particularly in the study of the past.A technique which began as a tool of warfare quickly developed into an exploration method for archaeologists and historians. This talk outlines the history of aerial photography, particularly in the study of the past. It then moves on to the use of the recently de-classified colour infrared film by the speaker and his friend Michael Leach in the ‘70s, leading to the discovery of a lost Civil War earthwork on Baghill, a Roman Mansio (way-station) below Castlesyke Hill, and other important sites locally and around the region.
