SUMMARY:Wakefield Armed Forces Day
DESCRIPTION:Wakefield Armed Forces Day is a free\, family-friendly event at Pontefract Park honouring serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces alongside the broader services of military personnel. \nVisitors can walk through the military village\, discovering more about the capabilities and traditions of the armed forces by speaking to serving military and cadets. The 5 Towns Veterans Support Hub will also be a hosting a VIP area for veterans. \nThe main arena will be compered by Rhubarb Radio\, with a fantastic schedule of activities including the veteran’s parade\, tug of war\, drill competitions and much more! There will also be a fantastic parachute display from the Wings Free Fall Parachute Team\, plus a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. \nShop at the market\, with traders selling an assortments of delicious food\, drinks\, homemade crafts and gifts. Looking for lunch? With plenty of street food vendors you’ll be spoilt for choice! You can also take a break at the onsite bar which will be serving a range of refreshments. Children will love the funfair rides which are back again this year – please note they are cash only. \nPlease note the use of drones and kites is strictly permitted at this event due to aerial activity.  \n  \nBattle of Britain Memorial Flight\nWe’re delighted to announce there will be Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at this year’s Wakefield Armed Forces Day! \nMore information coming soon so stay tuned for exact timings and aircraft expected! \nWakefield Armed Forces Day is organised by Wakefield Council and is part of the UK-wide Armed Forces Day celebrations. \nWakefield Council are thrilled to be one of the 130 local events supported by a Ministry of Defence grant. \nIf you have any questions about this event please contact afd@wakefield.gov.uk

DESCRIPTION:Pontefract Liquorice Festival is back – and what a sweet treat it is! \nGet ready for Pontefract’s annual confectionary-themed bonanza celebrating the town’s historic link with liquorice. \nThe iconic Liquorice Parade makes its triumphant return with dancers\, stilt walkers\, brass band and local community groups making their way in spectacular style from Pontefract Town Hall to Pontefract Castle! \nThere will be live music on the main event stage creating a vibrant atmosphere as visitor enjoy perusing the famous food and drink market where stalls will be selling an appetising range of food and drink (many with a liquorice twist!) \nLocal venues will be into the festival spirit with the Liquorice Food & Drink Trail\, offering delicious liquorice specials across the festival weekend. \nThere will be plenty of free\, family activities to enjoy\, with interactive story times and fun garden play taking place in the grounds of the historic Pontefract Castle. Make sure to stop by the make-and-take workshop where participants can create handheld parade flags inspired by Pontefract’s liquorice heritage and traditional sweet forms! Families will also enjoy free face painting and funfair rides! \nWant to discover more about Pontefract’s historic link with liquorice? Then make sure to attend a heritage talk at Pontefract Library! \nDon’t miss the exciting fringe activity taking place as well at local venues across the Town Centre.
