Visit to Selby

Around a dozen members of Pontefract Civic Society went to Selby on Saturday 30 July, 2011, and were treated to a guided tour of Selby Abbey, and a guided walk of Selby’s past commercial heritage from railways to the River Ouse. About 3 hours was spent around the town on a pleasant sunny afternoon, which gave much thought for future similar visits we could make, and also ideas for improvements to Pontefract. This photograph shows membersd admiring the outdoor ampitheatre which was contructed in 2009 at the end of a riverside walkway which incorporates an historical timeline of Selby in the footpath and sculptural features.
