Wakefield District Councillors and Officers will gather with business and property owners on Saturday 9 July to launch Pontefract’s Townscape Heritage Initiative, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the local authority. Although some grants will be available, property owners will also be expected to contribute, too.

In support of the launch, WMDC will have a stall on Pontefract market, and as the day coincides with a Fun Day at Pontefract Castle, traditional crafts people will be giving demonstrations of brick making & restoration, stained glass, mud building, stone masonry, and timber building methods.

Pontefract Civic Society will be playing our part through Peter Taylor, Chair of Conservation, Environment & Planning, who will lead a series of tours of the town to highlight THI properties and other buildings of architectural & historic interest.

THI promotion will also continue on Sunday 10 July at the Liquorice Festival, which will be followed by a month of further promotion with information boards with the leaflets / booklets at various locations around the town (Town Hall, the Library and the Museum).
